Cape Town police say have confirmed that they have arrested a 41-year-old Gauteng man for an alleged attempt at soccer match fixing.
Spokesperson Andrè Traut says the suspect is accused of approaching match officials at a Cape Town hotel on Tuesday.
He allegedly offered them a bribe to influence a match in which a team was vying for promotion to the lucrative Premier League.
One of the officials informed the Hawks and a sting operation was set up. Traut says a large amount of cash was seized.
