The Independent Complaints Directorate says new legislation will strengthen its mandate to conduct impartial investigations into police misconduct.
Addressing the National Press Club in Pretoria, ICD executive director, Francois Beukman, said the legislation prioritizes certain cases, like deaths in police custody, rape by police members, and torture.
He says it gives the Directorate the clout it needs to initiate criminal proceedings on uncooperative police members.
