Lusanda Bill
1 July 2011
Business Unity South Africa welcomed the proposed tolls tariffs for Gauteng’s as a step in the right direction.
Busa said in a statement however that it is still deeply concerned at the impact that the new system will have on the regional and national economy.
Under the proposal, light motor vehicles with an e-tag will be charged 40-cents per kilometre while light vehicles without a tag will be charged 66-cents. This represents a 20- to 30-percent downward adjustment of the original proposed tariffs.
Busa says urban tolling of this kind will make the local business environment more costly and complex.
