Observers say the ANC leadership must have come down hard on the ANC Youth League for its campaign for regime change in Botswana. It is not often that the League apologises and withdraws any of its statements, but this is exactly what it did yesterday.
Spokesperson Floyd Shivambu says that the League apologises and withdraws its comments on regime change in Botswana because it notes that the leadership of the ANC took serious exception to the ANCYL’s statement on the matter and classified it as a transgression of ANC constitution and policies.
Shivambu says, however, that the League will nevertheless discuss internally the deeper political and ideological considerations that led to its statements about the regime change in Botswana.
The discussions will be held with the view and intention of establishing common ground and agreement with the leadership of the ANC.
