Nineteen tourists and an operator who spent a night trapped in a cable car in Germany were rescued yesterday by two emergency helicopters. The cable car stopped working after its cables were hit by a paraglider.
The incident occurred on mount Tegelberg, in the Bavarian ski resort of Schwangau, near the famous Neuschwanstein castle. The tourists, aged from four to 75, were trapped for 17 hours.
A mountain rescue specialist was lowered into the gondola late on Friday, providing enough food and clothing to keep the trapped tourists warm and fed through the night.
