An accident near Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape has claimed six lives. Police spokesperson Mduduzi Godlwana says the car four of the victims had been travelling in collided head-on with a bakkie.

The people in the car were on their way to Flagstaff. Two passengers in the bakkie were also killed on impact. The driver of bakkie is being treated for serious injuries.

More news from the Eastern Cape is that the proposed expansion of the Marine Protected Area that will cover 120-thousand hectares along the middle-eastern section of Algoa Bay still needs to go through the whole public participation process.

The government is currently creating a framework for managing the country's fisheries and consolidating some of the world's top research and fishing sites.

SANParks marine co-ordinator Ane’ Oosthuizen says they chose Algoa Bay because of its rich biodiversity.
