The police say they are very pleased with the long sentences handed down to two Vietnamese nationals for the smuggling of rhino horns by the Kempton Park Magistrate Court yesterday.
They were sentenced to 12 and 8 years in prison. The two men were arrested when fifteen rhino horns were found in their luggage at OR Tambo Airport.
Police headquarters says in a statement it hopes that the long sentences, which do not carry the option of a fine, will send a strong message to those who are threatening to decimate South Africa's rhino population.
