Limpopo ANC Youth League secretary Jacob Lebogo has been charged with inciting public violence.

The DA’s John Moodey says he laid the charge after Lebogo was identified as the alleged ringleader of a violent protest outside Luthuli House in Johannesburg during Julius Malema’s disciplinary hearing.

Moodey says the gatherings were illegal as the Youth League had not sought permission to protest.

The Youth League’s Limpopo chairperson Frans Moswane denied that the rampage had been triggered a speech made by Lebogo.

Meanwhile, the national working committee of the ANC says action should be taken against those implicated in acts of violence and criminality.

The violent protests were discussed at yesterday regular meeting of the NWC.

Secretary General Gwede Mantashe says the meeting also condemned the burning of T-shirts bearing President Jacob Zuma’s face and the flag of the ANC.

The actions are viewed as a breach of everything the ANC stands for.
