Five Eastern Cape police members are applying for bail in the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court today.
The Independent Complaints Directorate arrested them on Wednesday in connection with the murder of 43-year-old Ben Mamase.
He was allegedly tortured and suffocated to death in December last year during the police members’ search for an unlicensed firearm.
In Mpumalanga, the ICD yesterday arrested six reservist constables on a murder and assault charge.
Thirty-nine-year-old Oupa Mabuye died in January, allegedly after being assaulted during a search for illegal firearms. He died from internal bleeding.
The ICD are hoping to soon arrest another two reservist constables in connection with the crime.
