South Africa’s ambassador to Uganda Jon Qwelane has won his application to have the hate speech judgement against him withdrawn.
The Johannesburg Magistrate's Court also ordered the Human Rights Commission to pay the costs of Qwelane’s legal counsel.
His legal team argued that Qwelane had been out of the country when the Equality Court found in the favour of the HRC.
The case revolves around a column he wrote while practising as a journalist in 2008 in which he expressed anti-gay sentiments.
