Minister in the Presidency Trevor Manuel says all individuals, including ANC Youth leader Julius Malema should be open to public scrutiny when they have power over political processes.
Speaking during an interview with the British based Channel Four, Manuel said that officials should all be transparent about their finances.
Asked if this should apply to Malema, Manuel replied in the affirmative.
Manuel's comments follow numerous allegations of corruption and tender fraud which have plagued Malema in recent times. He had been set to appear at an ANC disciplinary hearing on Thursday, facing charges of bringing the ANC into disrepute and sowing division within party ranks.
However, Malema was admitted to hospital and only discharged this morning. He was admitted with flu-like symptoms which he said were not major.
