DA outraged at reports that teachers are assaulting learners

The Democratic Alliance is outraged at reports that schools are holding so-called kangaroo tribunal.

Teachers are said to be physically assaulting learners and paying off parents after pupils have been sexually abused.

DA spokesperson Annette Lovemore says in the latest incident, video footage of a male teacher brutally slapping and kicking a girl in a Mpumalanga school went viral on social media.

Lovemore is demanding a full investigation by the South African Council for Educators into the abuse pupils are suffering at the hands of teachers.
