A possibility of future school closures in the Western Cape

Western Cape Education Department said there is a possibility of school closures in the future.

This follows the High Court's decision on Wednesday to dismiss an application by the department to close 17 schools.

The Department applied to close the schools last year, citing dwindling numbers and under-performance during exams as the main reasons.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the WCED has studied the judgment and they will look at recommendations made when probing schools in the future.

Casey said they will also take in consideration whether to appeal on the decision by the judge.
