WCED to introduce one language in ten schools next year

In light of the decision by the Council of Education Ministers, to introduce an African language as an additional language in grades R and Grade1. 

The Western Cape Department of Education is considering implementing a pilot project in ten schools in each district next year. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said the practical details around this are still being finalised together with the Department of Basic Education. 

Casey said the WCED will introduce one language during the pilot phase and the language will be Isixhosa.
