Alan Winde, the premier of the Western Cape, made an announcement and addressed alleged connections between gangsters and police during his State of the Province Address on Thursday.
Winde announced
the establishment of a commission to address a Western Cape Police report into
the alleged connections between gangsters and the provincial police, which
found evidence to support the charges.
In addition, he
stated that they were in process of
establishing a panel of distinguished individuals to make specific recommendations
as to how they should respond to this problem that has infected policing and to
ensure that crime-fighting leadership is untarnished by the proceeds of crime.
