Improving the quality of provision in Grade R

On Tuesday Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshegka and Deputy Minister High Education and Training Mduduzi Manana briefed journalists in Parliament about government priorities of education.

Motshegka said the Department has committed to improve the quality of basic education and adding emphasis on laying a solid foundation from lower phases.


Minister Motshekga added that the department has taken some measures to enforce teacher accountability.

These include effective and reliable staff attendance registers and learners and monitoring the utilization of accountability instruments.

Meanwhile the Department of High Education and training has build up a vision for Post-school education and training.

Manana said the increase of FET college enrolments which have almost doubled from about 350 000 in 2010 to over 650 000 in 2012.

The department of Higher Education and Training has also allocated over R100 million from the National Skills Fund for the building of the South African Centre for Renewal Energy.

Manana said that the project will create high level capacity for the production of skills in the area of renewal energy.
