The South African
Communist Party in the Eastern
Cape has called on the Department
of Health to withdraw a tender of chronic mental health services in the
province.
SACP said the
decision to outsource this service will lead to the collapse of the current
service provided by the Psychiatric centres given the challenges they are
facing.
SACP EC Provincial
Spokesperson Siyabonga Mdodi said they are supportive of the committee’s rejection
of the outsourcing of the important services needed by the people.
“This tender as advertised
will cost people of the Eastern Cape R100 million a year; R300 million for this
three year contract, and ultimately over R1 billion over the course of ten
years” Mdodi added.
