Port Elizabeth drowning left two people dead

Six people were pulled out to sea at the Bleu water bay Beach in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

Netcare 911 Spokesperson Chris Botha said five people had been rescued by the life guards and brought to the beach, one of them was in cardiac respiratory arrest.

Botha added that paramedics worked eagerly for more that forty minutes to try and resuscitate the man but tragically he was declared dead.

He further said that a sixteen-year-old boy disappeared under the water and despite search efforts was not found.

In a separate incident A seventeen-year-old male is in a serious but stable condition after a near drowning incident at the Umgababa beach on the Natal south coast this morning.

Netcare 911 Spokesman Chris Botha said Reports from the scene indicate that the bather was swept out in a rip current and was fortunate that life guards got to him in time.

Botha added that when they arrived at the scene they found the man on the beach exhausted displaying near drowning symptoms.

He was stabilised on scene and they transported him to a local hospital for the care that he required.
