Western Cape MEC of Local Government
Anton Bredell today approved an application for the development of the
multibillion-Rand Wescape mini city near Koeberg nuclear power station.
Bredell said this is a planning
decision which means that developers can now put proposals forward which will
go through a public participation process.
Bredell said the City will look
around the environmental issues, safety
issues around the Koeberg station and it’s a long term solution for the
next 20 to 30 years.
Bredell said it would cost the tax payers.
On the other hand MEC Bredell has
turned down a proposal to develop farmland in the Philippi Horticultural
Area.
This has been a controversial subject
for some time proposal wanting to change the designation of 281 hectares of
land involving privately owned properties.
Bredell said two, three years ago
the City opened up a corridor in Philippi which
still needs to be developed and hopeful work will resume in the next few
months.
