The Democratic Alliance said it will requests Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, to grant emergency funding for National Forensic Laboratories to improve their efficiencies and speed up the elimination of backlogs.

DA MP of Health Wilmot James said the war against drunk driving requires swift and severe justice, neither of which can be had when results of the mandatory blood alcohol tests take so long to complete.

James added that presently, the blood alcohol samples are required in order to get the drunken driving convictions as the lab improves their processing but it still not fast enough.

He concluded by saying that It is therefore of the greatest importance that Motsoaledi make the proper investments in the laboratories that fall under his governance.
