National Sea
Rescue Institute in Knysna were activated following a call from the Police
reporting that they were responding to a drowning in progress at the Point on
the Knysna Lagoon, whereby a body of a 22 year old male was found.
It appears that
the family of five had been at the lagoon.
NSRI Spokesperson
Craig Lambinon said on arrival on it was determined that the 22 year old male
had disappeared under the water after five people had launched the canoe, which
tipped on the lagoon while they were out on the water, forcing some of them to fall out
of the canoe.
“During the
search conducted by the NSRI and the police dive unit member the body of a 22
year old was found and recovered and it has been handed in to the care of
Forensic Pathology.” Lambinon added.
Police have
opened an inquest docket.
