The South African Democratic Teachers Union in the Free State has raised its concerns regarding the increase violence at Thuto Secondary School.

This follows the stabbing to death of a learner in the school premises and in full view of other learners.

The union in the province said the department needs to deploy security in schools especially in hot spot areas.

Sadtu Provincial Secretary Moloi Mokholoane said this in not for the first time that they have experienced such witnesses where we even called for the meeting with the department of Education to highlight this situation.

Mokholoane said that “they were very much dismissive defending the safety committee’s, which we said they are very much dysfunctional, and they can’t handle the acts of violence of this magnitude, because they are not trained as Police Service those particular educators.”
