ACDP calls for OBE system to be reviewed

For the third consecutive year, the country’s matric results have continued on a downward spiral. Many blame this on the Outcomes Based Education (OBE) system that has been implemented in the school curriculum.

“The ACDP is not at all satisfied with the department’s explanation regarding last year’s matric results,” said the African Christian Democratic Party’s Cheryllyn Dudley.

Thus, the ACDP has called for the OBE system to be reviewed. According to the party, the system has once again proved to be a failure as young people leave school totally unprepared for tertiary education.
“OBE has a disastrous track record and has once again proved to be a failure.”

Dudley adds that a third of the 2008 candidates failed matric last year, despite the fact that the pass rate has been lowered to just 30%.

“The ACDP is calling on the department to outline what measures they will put in place to ensure that this situation improves drastically,” said Dudley, “so that 2009 does not produce the same results.”
