The Democratic Alliance says senior education officials allegedly instructed at least two teachers to inflate matric results.
The DA’s Desiree van der Walt says the party was approached by two people who claimed that some marks were purposely raised. She says the allegations add to the concerns about possible window-dressing of this year's matric exam results.
The DA wrote to Education Minister Naledi Pandor asking for an independent investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile spokesperson for the Minister of Education, Lunga Ngqingelele says” the department is appealing to the Democratic Alliance to submit the names of the teachers as well as the people who instructed them to inflate marks, so that they can look into the matter.”
“They can also give these names to Umalusi which is an independent quality assuror so that the allegations can be thoroughly investigated”, says Ngqingelele.
