Man found floating in the sea

Yesterday NSRI St Francis Bay was call out to assist a fisherman who was found by the crew of a Chokka Fishing boat Shehasta. The 25-year-old Uitenhage fisherman had been found floating in the sea wearing a life-jacket near to the Gamtoos River Mouth by the crew who had taken him on-board and called for the NSRI to come and fetch him as they claimed he appeared confused and disorientated.

Once NSRI St Francis Bay arrived on-scene the man was taken on-board the rescue craft and taken to the NSRI rescue base where they determined that earlier in the day he had jumped off the Chokka Fishing boat Le Tap, wearing a life-jacket, and just by chance Shehasta had sailed past a few hours later and found him floating in the sea.

“We suspect that he may be on medication from his doctor and may have failed to take that medication, causing his behaviour and for jumping of the boat. He has been re-united with his family and is due to see his own doctor for treatment, but otherwise wasn’t injured in the incident,” says Craig Lambinon, NSRI spokesperson.
