A strong police force was present in Hanover Park over the weekend as the Metro Police, with the assistance of Philippi police members, continued with the highly successful “Operation COCA”.
However, one female Metro Police officer was injured when she was attacked by a dog.
The officer sustained injuries to her right leg and left hand and was taken to the Vincent Palloti hospital for treatment.
Despite the setback, the Metro police managed to issue a total of 211 traffic fines.
38 fines were issued for unlicensed motor vehicles and 74 for unlicensed drivers. 59 fines were issued for public transport violations.
Metro Police spokesperson, Nowellen Petersen, said that during the operation on Friday morning, 11 suspects were arrested.
“9 houses were searched and 8 of the 11 suspects that were arrested were for possession of illegal substances.”
“R17 807.60 were confiscated.”, Petersen added.
