The Minister of Water Affairs and Forestry Lindiwe Hendricks said thatall tap water in South Africa is safe to drink; even sometimes it doesn't meet technical standards.
Speaking at the launch of Water Week in Johannesburg, Hendricks said of the 300 samples taken nationwide, about 98 percent complied with the South African National Standards of drinking water.
Hendricks said the quality of water at the remaining municipalities mixed.
She said in some parts, this was a result of stolen or broken water pumps.
Hendricks added that South African tap water was ranked among the best in the world because the country matched the develop nations in water service.
