Mayor Helen Zille met with the Western Cape Provincial Taxi Council on the fifth of March and will be meeting with the Western Cape National Taxi Association on Sunday.
These meetings are part of her consultations and discussions with the minibus-taxi industry regarding the City’s Integrated Rapid Transit system.
Kylie Hatton from the City of Cape Town said that during the meeting with the WCPTC, taxi representatives expressed concern about violence both against them and commuters from elements in the taxi industry.
The mayor was concerned with violence in the industry.
She also asked to meet with the three spheres of government ot deal with enforcement issues.
She will then on Sunday meet with the City of Cape Town to inform the industry about the Rapid Transit system and its benefits.
