Members of the media were taken on a guided tour of the City of Cape Town’s key Integrated Rapid Transit system construction sites this yesterday morning.
The tour was guided by the City’s leading IRT Engineers working on the construction of this new public transport network and visited sections of the trunk routes of Phase 1a.
“A trunk route is a route where the vehicles will travel in their own designated lane and stopping at designated stations for passengers to get on and off,” said the City’s Kylie Hatton
“We looked at an area stretching from the Civic Centre out to the Blauwberg area where construction is on site,” said Hatton
The construction areas visited were:
· Culemborg Site
· N1 Underpass Site in Paarden Eiland
· Salt River Canal Site
· Milner Road, Otto du Plessis Intersection
· The R27
