City youth to embark on a clean up project in honour of Madiba

Imizamo Yethu youth will celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 91st Birthday on Saturday with a Mass Cleanup under the theme “Team up to Clean up!” in honour of Tata Madiba.

The youth leaders say they are inviting the rest of Hout Bay to do the same in their areas.

The leaders of Imizamo Yethu and Hout Bay Recycling are making plans to ensure that every resident living in the informal settlement is out cleaning the streets and yards.

Coordinator for the campaign Flinton Governdor says they have planned to meet all the block committees in the area celebrate the day by spending 67munites to community services.

“The clean up will start and finish with the sound of bells, gongs and hooters at 12h00 -13h07 on Saturday 18th July”, he said.

The campaign will also form part of many other activities that will take place throughout the country in honour of South Africa’s first black democratically elected president.

MPs and political party leaders will visit orphanages as well as old age homes to spent 67 minutes in community work.

The 67 minutes mark and symbolizes the 67 uninterrupted years Madiba spent in serving his nation and fighting for human rights.
