More than 100 residents of Hangberg in Hout Bay protested against the auction of Hout Bay’s famous peak, the Sentinel Mountain yesterday.
The residents are demanding that their family land be protected.
The auction was cancelled due to the protest.
“The protesters threw stones at the SAPS members and we fired the rubber bullets to disperse the crowd” said, Inspector Tanya Lesch.
Lesch confirmed that two vehicles were damaged and one police member was injured during the protest.
“A Case of illegal gathering and public violence will be opened and will be investigated”, said Lesch.
