The Congress of the People (COPE), says it regards former SABC group chief executive officer, Dali Mpofu’s golden handshake as an insult to hard working officials of the corporation.
Cope’s Phillip Dexter says workers kept the public broadcaster operational during the extended battle between the executive management and the previous SABC board.
Dexter says while there may be good reason why the SABC interim board had to get rid of Mpofu, the settlement should not clear him from executive responsibility for the crisis he leaves behind
Meanwhile, the SABC calculates that it will cost around 20-million-Rand to part company with Mpofu. Interim board chairperson, Irene Charnley, says the amount includes a restraint of trade payment and his legal fees.
Mpofu will resign and withdraw all pending legal action against the corporation.
