DA leader discourages strike action

Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille has reminded voters that it does not improve service delivery if voters support a government, and three months later are on the streets protesting against poor service delivery.

Zille former City of Cape Town mayor and current Western Cape Premier was speaking at the Mpumalanga congress of the DA.

She said voters had to realise that they change their governments through their vote, not the toyi-toyi.

She says any country that is governed by the same party for longer than 20 years is setting itself up for serious abuse of power.

Meanwhile in Zille’s province, a weeks long nationwide strike by municipal workers took the city by storm affecting service delivery.

And the City of Cape Town might see another protest action this coming week, as hundreds of residents from Khayelitsha informal settlements plan to take to the streets.

The residents handed a memorandum to city mayor and gave the city two weeks deadline to respond to the demands.
