A police member guarding Nelson Mandela’s house in Houghton, Johannesburg, committed suicide at the house yesterday.
It is reported while the man killed himself the former president was at home.
Police say however Madiba was not dangered in anyway.
The police’s Dennis Adriao says the 37-year-old police sergeant and father of two shot himself in a guardhouse outside the security perimeter of Mandela's house.
Adriao says they were not aware that the man had been depressed in any way.
He was not part of the perimeter surrounding the former president's house, but was one of the first lines of security upon entrance.
