The South African Medical Association has called for calm over the swine flu pandemic.
Professor Denise White, SAMA chairperson called on the public to remain calm and put the disease in perspective.
White says there is a wide-spread outbreak, but the majority of cases are mild and self-limiting.
She says general respiratory hygiene measures still prevail as the best way to reduce the risk of viral transmission.
White says there are no quarantine, but people with respiratory symptoms should stay home for several days and ill children should not participate in sporting activities.
One person is known to have died as a result of the virus in South Africa.
