Blood morning on the country’s roads

At least 13 people have been killed and scores others injured in separate accidents on the country’s roads today.

In the Eastern Cape five people died and 24 other had been injured when three taxis and a truck crashed on the R 294 between Steynsburg and Venterstand.

The accident occurred at about 7’ o clock this morning and police are investigating the cause of the accident.

In Pietermaritzburg four people died in a head-on collision involving a bakkie and a car.

It is reported that two occupants in the bakkie and two from the car died on the scene.

A woman who was walking along the road sustained injuries after she was hit by the vehicles as they spun off the road.

Meanwhile, four people died and four others are in a critical condition after their bakkie crashed into the barriers of the N2 highway near Amanzimtoti.

It is believed that the driver of the bakkie, carrying 16 people, lost control of the vehicle and it went down an embankment.

Four people were certified dead on the scene and another four including a 3-month-old baby are in a critical condition.

Six others sustained serious injuries and two suffered minor injuries.
