The African National Congress has called on staffers at e.tv to help police arrest the criminals who threatened to rob World Cup tourists during interviews broadcast by the station recently.
The ANC in a statement also called on the television station to do the honourable thing and withdraw its broadcast featuring the interviews with self-confessed criminals.
Spokesperson Jackson Mthembu says the criminals are not only a threat to tourists, but to the dream of hosting a successful African Fifa Soccer World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Hawks say a man who committed suicide in Soweto yesterday left information in a note next to his body about various media houses he had worked for.
The man is believed to have been one of the masked criminals interviewed by the station.
The Hawks spokesperson Musa Zondi said a suicide note and biographical information on reporter Mpho Lakaje found at the scene led the police to believe it was the man who had threatened to target soccer tourists.
