World Cup will impact on Traffic Services in Green Point

The City’s Chief of Traffic Services, Heathcliff Thomas, has appealed to the public to use alternative centres as the services available at the Gallows Hill Traffic Department in Green Point will be reduced due to the impact of the 2010 Fifa World Cup.

Heathcliff Thomas says the influx of tourists and football fans, together with an increase in pedestrian and traffic in the vicinity of the premises on scheduled match days, will have an impact on their service delivery.

All driving license competency tests and vehicle roadworthy tests will be suspended during this time due to the closure of the vehicle testing stations and test track.

Learner’s licence classes will also be suspended from mid-June 2010 to mid-July 2010.

“The general public are therefore encouraged to visit any of the other centres during this three month period.

“Gallows Hill DLTC will, however, be open for a limited number of transactions such as card renewals, card collections, appointments and payment of traffic fines,” says Merle Lourens, Chief Inspector.

Additional testing officers will be made available at Parow, Milnerton and Bellville Driving Licence Testing Centre’s to assist with the expected increase in the number of competency tests that will be directed to these testing centres.
