The Mother City has come alive with colour and klopse music as some 50-thousand spectators line the streets to watch the minstrel troupes perform.
Forty-five-thousand minstrels are marching and dancing through the City.
The Cape Town minstrel tradition is more than 200 years old, and Tweede Nuwe Jaar marks the only day in the year that slaves had off from work.
