Immigrant communities living in South Africa have expressed frustration over problems with registering their mobile phone numbers.
This follows a request under the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act, or Rica.
Some of the immigrants complain that retail outlets are refusing to register their numbers.
A survey revealed that small retail outlets are cashing in on the immigrants’ desperation.
This is done by charging them around 20-Rands for what should be a free process.
