Crime Prevention operations by police during the run up to New Years Eve have proven to be successful, with a total of 1884 arrests made over the period.
Police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk says a total of 116 detectives and 52 crime intelligence members were deployed in Khayelitsha, Nyanga and Kraaifontein with specific focus on shebeens and alcohol related crimes.
This initiative contributed to the identification of hotspot areas in the three clusters.
No murders were reported during the operations in the areas.
van Wyk added that the deployment of over 3000 police officers played a major role in the decrease of crime over this two day period.
“Our policing efforts paid off in terms of safety and security. It was a relatively quiet festive season period," said van Wyk.
