Man shot dead in Pinelands

A man believed to be in his early 20’s was found shot dead in Pinelands this morning.

ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak says upon their arrival they found the body lying against the wall, next to a house.

“The man was already dead when we arrived on the scene and there was nothing more that we can do to save his life,” said Vermaak.

The man sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his chest.

Vermaak said it is understood from bystanders on the scene that the deceased was being chased by police when the incident occurred.

“At this stage, it is not clear who killed him and why he was being chased,” he said.

Vermaak says police will conduct an investigation about the incident.
