Extremely hot conditions in the Western Cape and especially in the Cape Town metropole have increased the danger of runaway fires to a high level and residents and visitors have been urged to be very careful.
The SA Weather Service says the mercury will rise to more than 34 degrees in many places.
The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has also urged people to drink enough water and to stay in cool places wherever possible.
A City Council spokesperson says they are prepared for possible disasters with all their response teams on standby.
In Pretoria, a fire badly damaged a building in Bosman Street, causing Absa bank clients and residents to flee for cover.
A spokesperson for the Fire Department says nobody was injured in the blaze that destroyed the fourth floor of the building.
