The City of Cape Town Council says strict control at access points at the city’s beaches prevented any major incidents over the New Year’s weekend.
However, the high number of missing children reported remains a concern.
Metro police showed no tolerance for alcohol abusers on the beaches.
Since Friday morning, 55 liquor related fines were issued and 205 bottles of alcohol were confiscated.
At Strandfontein and Mnandi beaches in False Bay, people who tried to bring alcohol onto the beach areas but were turned away.
In addition, 236 traffic fines were issued, 93 by-law offences were recorded and one stolen vehicle was recovered.
The lack of interest parents showed in looking for lost children was the only serious problem authorities experienced.
