Relief efforts gain momentum in Haiti

Efforts to rescue, feed and treat tens of thousands of trapped or injured Haitians are slowly gathering momentum, as relief crews struggle to get a grip after Tuesday’s devastating earthquake.

The United States government says it has received permission from Cuba to fly through normally restricted air space on medical evacuation flights.

This cuts 90 minutes off the flight time.

Two South Africa rescue crews are expected to arrive in Haiti today.
