The South African Football Players Union says they plan to oppose the liquidation of Bay United Football Club.
The Port Elizabeth-based club came into existence in 2006, and has had a shaky few years after Sipho Pityana bought it in 2007 from Volkswagen South Africa.
The player union’s Elvis Sekgobela says Bay United players did not receive their salaries last month, and have not been informed of the future of the club.
Sekgobela says Pityana wants to keep the team within the family.
“We oppose the liquidation of the team, because the owner wants the team to be bought by his relatives as it happened before to Bush Bucks.
We appeal to the PSL not to pay Bay United any money, pending the liquidation,” said Sekgobela
