Two people were killed and five injured in a horrific accident on the R-31 some ten kilometres from Barkley West in the Northern Cape.

The driver of the car involved apparently lost control of the vehicle and it left the road and overturned.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson says a child who had been in the car was found caught up in a thorn tree in the veld. All the bones in his body appeared to have been broken.

A second victim was also later found in the veld. All his clothes had been ripped off by the force of the accident. The injured were rushed to hospital and police are investigating.

Meanwhile investigators are probing the cause of an explosion at a power station in Vereeniging, Gauteng in which a man died yesterday afternoon and 18 of his colleagues were injured.

ER24’s Vanessa Jackson says fire fighters had to secure the plant before they found the deceased.

He had suffered severe burns. Four of the 18 injured patients sustained moderate burns, while another man suffered inhalation burns. The victims’ names have not yet been released.
