Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa says detectives have foiled a right-wing plot to launch an attack on a black township.
According to reports the revelation was made to the media before delivering the minister delivering his budget vote in Parliament this afternoon.
He says police uncovered the plot following a recent raid in Pretoria.
Arrests were made after arms cash was uncovered, but Mthethwa refused to reveal more details.
Two arms caches were also recently uncovered in Worcester in the Boland. Two people were arrested in that case.
Mthethwa also announced that the Hawks had convicted over five-thousand-500 criminals since they were established last year.
More good news is that the number of detectives in the police force is up by 22-percent.
The minister however admits that by the end of next year there will still be thousands of DNA samples waiting to be analysed.
Mthethwa says government will bring in international experts to sort out the forensic science laboratory.
