Stop and search patrols in Observatory led to the arrest of a 20 year old robbery suspect.
Sergeant Hilton Malila said police noticed the suspect running down Stanley Street, carrying a black handbag.
Police gave chase and arrested him soon after.
“As the police searched the suspect, a female complainant approached, and revealed that the suspect just threatened her with a screwdriver and robbed her hand bag and ran away on foot,” said Malila.
While searching the suspect, police confiscated a screwdriver.
“It is been alleged that the suspect threatened the complainant with a screwdriver in Lower Scott road , and robbed her of her handbag, containing personal documents and ran away,” added Malila.
The suspect is in police custody and will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court tomorrow on a charge of robbery.
