Three policemen, stationed at Gugulethu and Atlone SAPS have been arrested on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping and attempted murder.
Warrant Officer Siyabulela Vukubi of Maitland police said the officers allegedly went to a house in Milnerton, where they introduced themselves as members of the police’s organised crime unit.
The trio, dressed in civilian clothing, then proceeded to search the house, claiming they were looking for drugs.
“They allegedly, during their search, got hold of the bag that had unknown amount of cash and then proceeded to the bedroom where they ordered the complainant to open the safe for them. After the he refused, he was allegedly assaulted until he opened the safe and members took another amount of cash from the safe.
“They then ordered the complainant to go and open his shop for them but he lied to them by saying the keys are with his assistant in Khayelitsha. The members then allegedly drove to Khayelitsha with the complainant in order to have access to the shop. At Khayelitsha they ordered him out of the vehicle in a place where the complainant is not familiar with, but managed to get some help,” said Vukubi.
One of the suspects involved in the incident is still at large. The other three suspects , who were arrested on Tuesday, appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court today.
